Queen Charlotte Sound is named for the queen consort of Britain’s King George III. Known to composers Johann Christian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Queen Charlotte was an enthusiastic patron of the arts. She was also an amateur botanist who helped establish Kew Gardens in London. Queen Charlotte and King George III had 15 children, 13 of whom survived to adulthood.
