It's not known as New Zealand's sunniest province for nothing! Marlborough's clear, sunny skies and diverse landscape encourages a relaxed lifestyle. Marlborough has a wide and varied range of recreational activities from which to choose: tramping in the region's native forests; fishing trout-filled rivers; discovering the Sounds' sheltered bays; seeking out the humpback whale; exploring Marlborough's high backcountry. And all easily within reach of the region's towns.

Whether your interest lies with sea-kayaking or sea cruising, wine or wildlife, Marlborough is a great place to chill-out!

It's a Fact!

HAVELOCK
Havelock is a coastal village at the head of Pelorus Sound. Among the town's former residents were rocket scientist William Pickering and Nobel Prize-winning physicist Ernest Rutherford. Known as "the father of nuclear physics", Rutherford pioneered the orbital theory of the atom, notably his discovery of "Rutherford scattering". He was knighted in 1914 and was created Baron Rutherford of Nelson in 1931.
